24th Workshop: The Rise of Cellular IoT: Technologies, Networks and Applications

7 December 2017 at imec, Leuven.

The Rise of Cellular IoT: Technologies, Networks and Applications

In spring 2016 we we organised a workshop on LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) networks such as LoRa and SigFox, that marked a revolution for connecting the dots in the internet of things.

Today we face another potential game changer: the roll-out of cellular IoT networks such as NB-IoT, LTE Cat-M, etc. in licensed spectrum.

In this workshop we will bring you a comprehensive overview:

  • technology insight: data rate, coverage, energy consumption, network-based localisation,…
  • the view from the network operators, including network roll-out status in Belgium
  • comparison between LPWA networks in unlicensed spectrum (LoRa, SigFox,..) and cellular IoT networks
  • overview of field trials with cellular IoT networks
  • applications

Besides this, we will present a new software-based technique for super-resolution ranging/localisation based on standard ZigBee/Bluetooth/… communication radios.

Several innovations will be (live) demonstrated during a guided tour.

The workshop is open to all players in wireless technology enthusiasts, from technology providers and system integrators, to providers and end-users of solutions for IoT applications.
