Abstract:

In the latest generation of hearing aids, increased audio quality and patient comfort is offered through the use of wireless connectivity. Wireless technology in hearing aids enables a number of novel applications, including stereo audio streaming and binaural processing.
We will discuss NXP’s proprietary ultra low-power communications technology based on Magnetic Induction (MI) that provides a tightly-contained Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) around each patient.
We focus on typical challenges that are found in hearing aids, such as power consumption, area overhead, body attenuation and regulations.
