Abstract:

Recent wireless standards such as 802.11ac and 802.11ad offer high-speed wireless communications at short range. They build on LDPC channel coding in order to efficiently correct transmission errors. In order to support throughputs of multiple giga-bits per second, an advanced design architecture of the decoder is needed. Moreover, the energy efficiency of the decoding is crucial for battery-operated wireless devices.
Imec has designed such a flexible, high-speed and low-power decoder processor: the BLOX-LDPC. It satisfies the constraints of recent wireless standards while providing state-of-the-art efficiency and reconfigurability.
