How to deal with the wireless spectrum bottleneck through cognitive sensing?

Speaker: Ingrid Moerman

Event: 5th work meeting

Date: 14 September 2010

Abstract:

The explosive emergence of wireless technologies & standards results in an ever-growing number of wireless devices and networks coexisting in the same environment. We further witness an underutilization of licensed spectrum, while unlicensed spectrum is scarce. To deal with this spectrum bottleneck, novel communication paradigms supporting coexistence of heterogeneous wireless technologies are needed:
(1) COGNITIVE RADIO enabling advanced spectrum sensing, flexible radio configuration and flexible spectrum access
(2) COGNITIVE NETWORKING enabling cooperative sensing and collective decisions
This presentation will present new paradigms and recent results to solve the coexistence problem in a wireless home/office scenario.
